General Description

The Lemonpeel Hybrid Angelfish, a crossbreed of Centropyge flavissima and C. vroliki, belongs to the Pomacanthidae family, known for their vibrant colors and striking appearance on the reef. These fish typically grow to around 10 cm, with some reaching up to 18 cm. Notably, they are not usually reef-safe due to their tendency to consume coral mucus and disturb certain LPS, Zoanthus, and clams.

Aquarium Suitability

Considered suitable for aquariums, but with caution, as Dwarf Angelfish can pose risks to reef environments. They are herbivores, primarily feeding on microalgae and detritus but can also consume small crustaceans like krill and artemia. It is essential to provide a well-established aquarium with algae for grazing and supplement their diet with algae-rich foods.

Demands, Care, and Hardiness

These Angelfish have an average hardiness level and prefer water conditions with a pH of 8.1-8.4, a specific gravity of 1.020-1.025, and a temperature range of 22.2-25.6°C. They require a tank size of at least 300 liters and benefit from hiding places among live rocks in their environment. Regular feeding with algae-based foods helps maintain their immune system and overall health.

Reef Suitability

Lemonpeel Hybrid Angelfish are not considered reef-safe due to their tendency to nibble on coral polyps and mucus. They may harm soft corals and LPS in a reef setting, making it challenging to keep them with certain corals. However, some corals like Hammer corals, Bubble corals, Star polyps, and Disc anemones could potentially coexist with these fish in a mixed coral aquarium.

Aquarium Setup

When setting up an aquarium for Lemonpeel Hybrid Angelfish, it is crucial to provide ample hiding spots within live rocks. Maintaining a well-established tank with sufficient algae for grazing is essential. Additionally, offering a varied diet that includes macroalgae like seaweed and microalgae such as spirulina can help support their nutritional needs.

Behaviour

These angelfish are mostly peaceful but can exhibit aggression towards similar species, so care should be taken when introducing them to the tank. They may also nip at clam species, including Tridacna, and consume coral polyps, leading to potential disturbances within the aquarium ecosystem.

Feeding and Diet

The primary diet of Lemonpeel Hybrid Angelfish consists of small crustaceans, but they also feed on microalgae and detritus. Providing foods rich in algae, such as nori and spirulina, is ideal for their nutritional requirements. A diverse diet helps ensure their well-being and immune system functionality.

Dimorphism

Regarding dimorphism, these fish can change gender from female to male as needed. When a male is required, a female has the ability to change sex and assume the male role.

Habitat and Distribution

In the wild, Centropyge and Paracentropyge species, including the Lemonpeel Hybrid Angelfish, are found in coral reef habitats. Their distribution ranges across various tropical and subtropical regions, where they live among live rocks and feed on microalgae and detritus.
