General Description

The Yellowfin Angelfish, scientifically known as Centropyge flavipectoralis, is also commonly referred to as the Moonbeam Angelfish due to its striking appearance. This species showcases vibrant yellow pectoral fins that stand out against its dark brown body coloration adorned with metallic navy-blue vertical bars, resembling moonbeams against a midnight sky.

Aquarium Suitability

With a moderate care level, the Yellowfin Angelfish requires a minimum tank size of 70 gallons with ample hiding spots and live rock for grazing. It is essential to avoid housing this angelfish with other dwarf angelfish or similar-looking species to prevent territorial conflicts.

Care and Hardiness

Being semi-aggressive in temperament, the Yellowfin Angelfish needs special consideration when introduced to a tank. It is an omnivorous species that thrives on a diet comprising spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other meaty foods.

Reef Suitability

Caution is advised when considering the Yellowfin Angelfish for a reef aquarium due to its tendency to nip at stony and soft corals, posing a threat to sessile invertebrates in the reef environment.

Aquarium Setup

To create a suitable environment for the Yellowfin Angelfish, provide a well-established tank with proper hiding spots, live rock for grazing, and a variety of foods to meet its omnivorous dietary requirements. Ensure water conditions are maintained at a pH of 8.1-8.4, a specific gravity of 1.020-1.025, and a carbonate hardness (KH) of 8-12 dKH.

Behaviour

Feeding and Diet

This species is an omnivore that feeds on a diet consisting of spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other meaty fare to ensure optimal health and vibrant coloration.

Dimorphism

The Yellowfin Angelfish is hermaphroditic, making it challenging to differentiate between male and female individuals. Captive breeding of this species is extremely difficult, with no distinct color differences observed between genders.
