General Description
The True Sebae Clownfish, also known as Seba's Anemonefish, boasts a striking appearance with its black body adorned with wide white stripes, an orange head, a yellow anal fin, and a white to yellow tail. This species is distinguishable from the Sebae Clownfish by its predominantly black body coloration. True Sebae Clownfish are commonly misbarred, adding a unique trait to their aesthetic.
Aquarium Suitability
This species thrives in a 30-gallon or larger aquarium, preferably with a host anemone such as the Bubbletip Sea Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor). True Sebae Clownfish are well-known for their hardiness, making them an excellent choice for both novice and experienced aquarists. They are also considered suitable for reef aquariums and can coexist with various clownfish varieties when introduced simultaneously.
Care and Hardiness
True Sebae Clownfish are categorized as easy to care for, making them low-maintenance additions to aquariums. They exhibit durability and adaptability, which contributes to their resilience in various tank conditions.
Reef Suitability
This species is deemed reef-compatible, allowing them to thrive in reef aquarium environments. Their presence can complement and contribute to the overall diversity and dynamics of a reef tank.
Aquarium Setup
The ideal aquarium setup for True Sebae Clownfish includes a tank size of at least 30 gallons, ample hiding spots, and a suitable host anemone such as the Bubbletip Sea Anemone. Maintaining stable water conditions with a pH ranging from 8.1 to 8.4, a specific gravity of 1.020 to 1.025, and a carbonate hardness (KH) of 8-12 contributes to their overall well-being.
Behaviour
True Sebae Clownfish exhibit a semi-aggressive temperament and typically form pairs in the aquarium. The females are usually larger than the males, and both members of the pair tend to remain in close proximity to each other. They are known to be protective of their eggs and will defend them against potential threats from other tank mates.

Dimorphism and Captive Reproduction
Distinguishing between male and female True Sebae Clownfish is possible, with females being larger in size. These fish are relatively easy to breed in a home aquarium, laying their eggs on flat surfaces and diligently guarding them. Successful breeding can result in the hatching of eggs within 6-11 days, with the fry requiring a separate rearing tank and a diet of rotifers followed by baby brine shrimp.
Habitat and Distribution
Natural habitats of True Sebae Clownfish can be found in various regions, and they are known to prefer the shelter of host anemones for protection and security. Their distribution spans across specific geographic locations, contributing to their presence in marine ecosystems.
