• General Description:Dottybacks, belonging to the Pseudochromidae family, are known for their vibrant colors and relatively small size, typically staying under 4 inches (10 cm). The Diadem Dottyback, scientifically known as Pictichromis diadema, is no exception, showcasing beautiful hues. These fish can be distinguished by their eye shape, setting them apart from other species like Hawkfish, Surgeonfish, Rabbitfish, Angelfish, Triggerfish, Clown/Damselfish, or Pufferfish. They are native to the Western Central Pacific, specifically found in areas such as Peninsular Malaysia, the Philippines, and northern Borneo.

• Aquarium Suitability:The Diadem Dottyback is considered suitable for aquariums, albeit with caution. They are known to be aggressive towards other fish, especially those that are peaceful or docile. To mitigate aggressiveness, ensuring regular feeding, ample hiding spots, and providing sufficient space can help. Additionally, they have a tendency to jump out of open tanks and pose a threat to smaller crustaceans like shrimps and crabs.

• Demands, Care, and Hardiness:With an average level of hardiness, these dottybacks require good hiding places within the aquarium, typically seeking refuge between live rocks. They can lose color in captivity, but a diet rich in pigments and high-quality nutrition can help maintain their vibrancy. Regular feeding with a varied diet is essential for their well-being.
