General Description

The Swissguard Basslet, scientifically known as Liopropoma rubre, is a highly sought-after aquarium fish due to its striking appearance. Sporting an elongated body in shades of red with alternating horizontal stripes of black and mustard-yellow, this fish exhibits a unique and beautiful coloration. The dorsal and caudal fins are particularly eye-catching, with large black tips edged in a delicate pale blue hue.

Aquarium Suitability

This species is well-suited for aquarium life, making an excellent addition to reef tanks. However, caution is advised when housing them with smaller ornamental crustaceans, as they may pose a threat. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended for a single Swissguard Basslet.

They have semi-aggressive temperaments and thrive in water conditions with a pH range of 8.1-8.4, a specific gravity of 1.020-1.025, and a carbonate hardness (KH) of 8-12.
