General Description
The Jellyfish 3 Pack Medium includes three Moon Jellyfish (Aurelia aurita), also known as moon jellies, saucer jellyfish, or the common jellyfish. These jellyfish have a large natural range and can be found in coastal waters worldwide. Moon Jellyfish are virtually translucent, with an elegant lunar appearance and a hypnotic pulsating method of locomotion. Their translucent bodies create spectacular light effects, especially when paired with color-changing LED lights.
Aquarium Suitability
Moon Jellyfish are best suited for a marine aquarium dedicated to jellyfish. They require a specialized setup with gentle circular laminar water flow to keep them suspended in the water column. Avoid rough or sharp decor, as it can harm the delicate jellyfish. Maintaining ambient room temperature is essential, but in warmer climates, an aquarium water chiller may be necessary. Minimize air bubbles in the aquarium, as they can compromise the jellyfish's movement and feeding abilities.
Care and Hardiness
Moon Jellyfish have moderate care requirements. They are intolerant of copper levels and do not need special lighting conditions. Regular feeding of small meaty items like baby brine shrimp or prepared food suitable for filter-feeding invertebrates is necessary to meet their predatory dietary needs.
Reef Suitability
Moon Jellyfish are not suitable for reef aquariums due to their unique care needs and the specialized jellyfish aquarium setup required.
Aquarium Setup
A specialized "jellyfish aquarium" with gentle circular laminar water flow and no rough decor is essential for Moon Jellyfish. Ambient room temperature is suitable, but a water chiller may be needed in warmer climates. Minimize air bubbles to avoid compromising the jellyfish's mobility and feeding abilities.
Behaviour
Moon Jellyfish are peaceful in temperament and require a calm environment with low to medium water flow to thrive in captivity.
Feeding and Diet
Moon Jellyfish are active predators that feed on small meaty items such as baby brine shrimp or prepared food suitable for filter-feeding invertebrates. Regular feeding is necessary to meet their dietary requirements.
Habitat and Distribution
Moon Jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) are found in coastal waters worldwide, exhibiting a wide natural range. They can survive in various water conditions, preferring cooler temperatures but adapting well to ambient room temperature in home aquariums.
