General Description

Anubias "nangi" is a hybrid plant resulting from crossing A. barteri var. nana with A. gilletii. This hybrid was cultivated by Robert A. Gasser, the former owner of the "Quality Aquarium Plants" nursery in Florida. Recognized since 1986, Anubias "nangi" boasts wide-lanceolate acuminate leaves with a slightly bulging, shiny texture and a deep green color. It is a highly recommended Anubias variant known for its robust growth and low maintenance requirements.

Aquarium Suitability

Being a very easy plant to care for, Anubias "nangi" is suitable for aquariums. Its adaptability and minimal care needs make it an ideal choice for aquarists looking to add a striking yet undemanding plant to their tank. (see table)

Demands and Hardiness

Anubias "nangi" thrives in a temperature range of 24-28°C, with a tolerance range of 12-30°C. It prefers a pH level between 5-8 and low to high lighting. The plant can adapt to various water conditions regarding carbon dioxide levels, carbonate hardness, and nutrient concentrations (see table for detailed parameters).

Aquascaping & Usage

Anubias "nangi" serves as an epiphytic plant, commonly grown on hardscape materials within aquariums. It is suitable for midground and foreground placement and works well in nano tanks, particularly when grouped together. Its robust nature also makes it cichlid-proof, offering aquarists versatility in their aquascaping designs.

Propagation

Propagation of Anubias "nangi" can be achieved through methods such as rhizome division, splitting, or cutting off daughter plants. These propagation techniques allow for the expansion of Anubias "nangi" within the aquarium setting.

Habitat and Distribution

Anubias "nangi" is a hybrid plant derived from the parent species A. barteri var. nana and A. gilletii, both originating from West and Central Africa. In the wild, these species grow in diverse aquatic habitats within their native regions.
