General Description
Phyllanthus fluitans, commonly known as Red root floater, is a charming floating plant native to the American tropics. Belonging to the family Phyllanthaceae, it was initially classified under the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae) but has since been reassigned to its own family. The plant resembles a floating fern from the Salvinia genus but distinguishes itself with single alternate leaves per node and tufts of red roots along its thin submerged stem. The round, water-repellent floating leaves with a heart-shaped base conceal the stem, often displaying a convex center and a brown-red hue, intensifying with higher light levels.
