Description
Dwarf Sweet Flag (Acorus gramineus Solander), also known as Pusillus, is a dwarf variant of the Grass-leaf sweet flag or Japanese rush. It is a cultivated form often considered a variety, Acorus gramineus var. pusillus. This aquatic plant can be grown permanently submerged, especially when attached to hard materials. It typically reaches heights of 10-15 cm.
Aquarium Suitability
The Dwarf Sweet Flag is deemed suitable for aquariums, offering a unique appearance as an epiphyte plant that can grow on hardscape. It is recommended for midground or nano tanks. While it has been in the aquarium trade for some time, it is generally viewed as having limited value for aquatic setups.
Demands and Hardiness
Acorus gramineus Pusillus has an easy-care level, with very slow growth. It thrives in water temperatures ranging from 18-23°C (see table for more details). It can tolerate somewhat colder temperatures but caution is advised.
Aquascaping & Usage
This plant can be utilized for aquascaping purposes, particularly as an epiphyte plant in nano tanks or as a midground feature. Its ability to grow on hard surfaces adds unique aesthetic value to aquarium setups.
Propagation
