General Description:
Axelrodia Stigmatias, also known as the 'white star' or 'pepper' tetra, is a small fish belonging to the Characidae family. This species, with a maximum size of 2.0cm, is characterized by its silver and yellowish body coloration in life, with distinct markings on the caudal peduncle and an iridescent spot on the dorsal portion.

Aquarium Setup:
Axelrodia Stigmatias thrives in a well-structured aquarium environment with sandy substrate, driftwood roots, branches, and dried leaf litter. The tank should have dim lighting and include aquatic plants like Microsorum, Taxiphyllum, or Cryptocoryne spp. Floating vegetation such as Ceratopteris spp. is beneficial. Maintaining acidic conditions with soft water, low general hardness, and negligible carbonate hardness is crucial.

Behaviour:
Although peaceful with other species, Axelrodia Stigmatias is not an ideal community fish due to its small size and specialized requirements. It displays gregarious but territorial behavior, with rival males forming territories and occasional sparring. Shoaling behavior is common, and maintaining 8-10 specimens enhances their natural behavior and reduces shyness.

Feeding and Diet:
In nature, Axelrodia Stigmatias likely feeds on tiny invertebrates and zooplankton. In an aquarium, they readily accept small-sized dried foods but should also be provided with live or frozen fare like Artemia nauplii, Daphnia, Moina, and grindal worm daily.

Reproduction & Dimorphism:
Reproduction of Axelrodia Stigmatias can occur in a mature aquarium with soft, slightly acidic water and fine-leaved plants for spawning. Females appear rounder-bodied when gravid, but differences in color patterns in wild fish may not necessarily indicate gender. Adults spawn daily, and breeding involves placing a male and several females in a separate tank with suitable conditions.

Habitat and Distribution:
Native to the western Amazon region, Axelrodia Stigmatias is found in the rio Madeira, lago Manacapuru complex, and Río Ucayali in Brazil and Peru. Its habitat likely includes blackwater environments in forested tributaries rather than main river channels.
